In recognition of the university’s pursuit of excellence and impact for the public good, the Provost has announced the recipients of the Provost’s Do Good Innovator Awards. Among the 57 campuswide faculty and staff recognized for their outstanding contributions, three hail from the School of Public Policy – Hardeep Chowdhary, Selvon Waldron and Shanna Pearson.
The Provost’s Do Good Innovator Awards recognize excellence by members of our campus community who create, nurture, expand and amplify social impact through education, programs and research, both in and outside the classroom, and whose efforts to Do Good make a meaningful impact.
These dedicated Terps were nominated by their colleagues who recognized the significant and far-reaching impact they make. The award reflects their dedication to the university’s Do Good Campus core values: Experiential Learning; Social Impact; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging; Service to Humanity; Collaboration; and Innovation.
These outstanding staff and faculty have been hard at work tackling the grand challenges of our time in service of the public good:
Hardeep Chowdhary, Coordinator, Career Services and Alumni Relations; Staff
Hardeep Chowdhary has worked tirelessly in partnership with students and alumni to create, nurture, and expand social impact outside the classroom in multiple ways. For example, his successful revitalization of SPP’s mentorship program marked a significant achievement as there are now more mentors than mentees, creating a more supportive environment for students.
Shanna Pearson, Professor; TTK Faculty
Shanna Pearson exhibits exemplary commitment to experiential learning, social impact, collaboration, and innovation. She developed an experiential learning course with Maryland State Parks which sent students across the state to conduct surveys on park usage and park improvements. She has also designed a model for faculty training in experiential, social impact education which will move SPP forward in a significant way.
Selvon Waldron, Lecturer; PTK Faculty
As the executive director of Genesys Works, a national non profit organization, Selvon Waldron has positively influenced over 2,000 youth annually, providing pathways to career success for high school students in underserved communities.
