UMD School of Public Policy faculty members are regularly making a difference on campus and in the larger policy community. In June, Professor Douglas Besharov was elected as the co-chair of the Campbell Collaboration’s Social Welfare Coordinating Group.
The Campbell Collaboration, an international nonprofit organization, promotes positive social and economic change through the production and use of systematic reviews. The reviews are used to generate evidence to provide information to policymakers, practitioners and the public about which interventions help, harm or have no detectable effect.
“The Campbell Collaboration has published approximately 150 reviews, 61 of which have been published by the Social Welfare Group,” said Besharov. “The influence of the Campbell Collaboration, however, extends beyond the reviews it publishes. Already, a number of government agencies have been established that conduct systematic reviews in the social sciences, often using Campbell Collaboration procedural guidelines for conducting their systematic reviews.”
