The University of Maryland and the Government of Jakarta recently launched a performance management workshop as a part of a multi-year relationship assisting the city in its $41 billion urban regeneration project.
Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan, The Honorable Martin O'Malley and Dean of the School of Public Policy Robert C. Orr, gave remarks at the inaugural event.
The agreement pledges a suite of training programs, certificate programs and degrees, joint research, and technical consultation for Jakarta and provincial governments across Indonesia on smart cities, urban transportation, housing, community development and sustainable urban planning and management.
“We are thrilled for our new partnership with the City of Jakarta,” said Tom Kennedy, director, Executive & Cohort Programs. “We look forward to seeing the work in urban development that comes from this robust program.”
The university's relationship with Indonesia's capital city began this past summer and will be formalized with a memo of understanding at the workshop's closing ceremony next month.
School of Public Policy alumnus Gov. Anies Baswedan, MPP ’95, was elected governor of Jakarta, in April 2017.
