Anticipating malnutrition crises to enable more effective prevention and mitigation is a wise investment. This need is widely understood yet not always sufficiently supported in practice. The tools the humanitarian sector relies upon to anticipate and address crises are under threat at a time of sharp funding cuts. These circumstances endanger large populations around the world, including roughly 50 million children who already face acute malnutrition, a condition linked to nearly half of all deaths among children under 5.
